For our review of Heaven Sent, we discuss this unusual episode. Did we like Capaldi's solo performance, and how the story was constructed? What do we think is next after that reveal at the end? In The War Machines we encounter Dalek-like machines and 60s computing. How did the War Machines compare to the Daleks? Did the questions and concepts around artificial intelligence hold up to present day? What did we think of our first glimpse of Dodo, Ben, and Polly? Time Stamps:

On this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the Tenth Doctor story New Earth, and discuss the portrayal of gender dysphoria in science fiction/fantasy.
In our New Earth review we see the return of Cassandra and the Face of Boe. How did we think this story handled the topics it tried to cover? What did we think of the "science" we saw? Why does Mikayla have a particular grudge against this story?
For our gender dysphoria discussion we talk about what gender dysphoria is and why it should be a familiar concept to fans of science fiction. But how often is it overlooked, and why? Are aliens being used as a metaphor instead? And what are the possibilities if gender dysphoria is explored rather than ignored?

In this episode of The Web of Queer we review the Seventh Doctor story Battlefield, and discuss the differences between asexual representation compared to characters without a defined sexuality.
In our Battlefield discussion, after pouring over the nostalgia-fest, we discuss how the King Arthur legend was written into the story. Does the Doctor make a convincing Merlin? What do we thing of the Ace/Cho pairing? And how well does the Brig jump back into his old role, after such a long time away?
In the second part, we discuss the differences between characters without a sexuality shown on screen compared to characters that are asexual. How does representation in media impact the ways we talk about asexuality? Why can't we just decide every undefined character is asexual? Where are all the ace characters?

In our discussion we tackle the media’s portrayal of fictional bisexuals and pansexuals, and what impact that has for people in the real world. For Closing Time, we talk about The Doctor and Craig’s relationship, both how they perceive it and the assumptions that are made by those around them. How does the writing subvert tropes that we are used to seeing? And how many times can someone change their mind about a story?
In our discussion, we examine attitudes and laws regarding queer people at the time the show was just beginning. What kind of influences would have been around the people creating it? What queer BBC characters were around at that time, and what did it feel like to grow up in that era?

For our discussion, Josh asks Mikayla and Jessica for their overall impressions of the Classic Who they’ve seen so far. What do they think of the classic Doctors, how have the companions held up to fan wisdom, and is there a divide between the Classic series and the current one?

First we look back at the dystopian two part finale and try to figure out just what the Master was thinking. Or indeed, what was RTD thinking when he came up with the Dobby Doctor? We also discuss our opinions on the Doctor, Martha, and Jack trio.
For our discussion, we start with a primer on how to address Missy/Master, then jump into talk about the evolving dynamics of his/her relationship with the Doctor. On this episode of The Web of Queer, it’s all about our favourite Captain, Jack Harkness! We review his first appearance in the Series One two-parter The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances, and talk about the Captain's character in our discussion after.
In our review of this Ninth Doctor two-parter, we talk closets, continuity, and all that dancing. How well does this wartime horror hit on the themes of the times, and with Captain Jack being such a skillful con-artist, where does the conman end, and authentic flirting begin?
We finally discuss Captain Jack Harkness! Our queer action hero gets a whole segment to himself, and we dive deep. Why do his roles of companion verses leader cause such a shift in how he interacts with others, and how effectively do we feel that has been portrayed? And why does everyone always seem to flirt back?

In this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the First Doctor story The Time Meddler, and have a discussion about intersex people.
For the first part, The Time Meddler! What does viewing this tell us about how stories were told 50 years ago? Mikayla finds a new way to cope with the pacing of First Doctor stories, Josh and Jessica debate something possibly overlooked, and Ian ponders the roles the Doctor takes on with his new group of companions.
For our second part, we talk about the “I” in LGBTQIA. Intersex people are often overlooked and misunderstood, and they are vastly more common than many believe. As always, we love to hear back from you, but we especially would like feedback from any intersex listeners on this discussion or how you would like to hear us discuss this topic in the future.

On this episode of The Web of Queer it’s the 10th anniversary of modern Doctor Who, and we celebrate by watching the 10th anniversary special! Since they didn't make a new one, it’s the classic story The Three Doctors, paired with our thoughts about what 10 years of New Who has given us personally and given to queer fandom in general.
In our The Three Doctors review, we give the Brig another go, discuss the three Doctors' dynamic, and think Omega needs an interior decorator. What does this next step in Timelord society tell us? And do specials really need a plot?
We then take a moment and reflect on what we have taken from the last ten years of Who and on what it has given to both general Who fandom and to the queer community. Friendship, representation on and off screen, and a mix bag of squishiness all reside within. What more could you as for?

In this mini episode of The Web of Queer, it’s our first Pieces of Eight review! We reviewed the first story of the Eighth Doctors Adventures back on episode 19, and we continue our look at series one with Episode 3 – Horror of Glam Rock. |

On this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the Fifth Doctor episode Mawdryn Undead, and in celebration of the current Red Nose Day, review The Curse of Fatal Death.
For our Mawdryn Undead review, we puzzle over timelines, dive into paradoxes, and make direct connections to the current series. We’ve seen Turlough's last episode, how does his first add to his story?
For The Curse of Fatal Death, we look at Stephen Moffat’s first ever televised contribution to Doctor Who, and the only instance of a televised female Doctor. What does this comedy special nail, what misses the mark, and what made us go “what were they thinking?”

In this episode of The Web of Queer, we start with a review of the Eleventh Doctor two-parter The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon and have a broad discussion on heteronormativity.
In The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon, we talk about Canton and some of the surprises in this story. We also talk about The Slap, and try to puzzle out River’s motivations during this part of her story arc.
For our heteronormativity conversation, we talk about what it is, where it comes from, and how it effects what we expect of the characters we see on screen. What are the problems that arise from these assumptions, and what do we do to change it?

In this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the Third Doctor story The Mind of Evil, and start our Big Finish Eighth Doctor Series One reviews with Blood of the Daleks!
In The Mind of Evil, we consider the level of drama this episode attempts to convey. From dramatic phone conversations and character reveals to prat falls and stuntmen, how does the mystery machine fit into the pace of this six-parter?
For Blood of the Daleks, we dive into our first Big Finish story with the Eight Doctor and Lucie! Jessica and Mikayla discuss how they've adjusted to Doctor Who in an audio format, and the group dives into a discussion of how the writing and acting conveys those things we can’t see. Who’s looking forward to more?

On this episode of The Web of Queer, we are all about the ladies! We review the Forth Doctor story The Stones of Blood, and then we discuss Jenny and Vastra!
In our Stones review, we have almost nothing but love for this story about fake druids and floating dots. How do the trio of ladies centre this story, and how scary are those stones, anyways?
The life and times of Jenny and Vastra has been something Who has come back to on many occasions, so how do we think their story holds up? Is their relationship as solid as Strax’s skull, or do we see a different future for these two?

On this episode of The Web of Queer, our Christmas review is finally here! We also see our final classic Doctor, with the Eighth Doctor's TV Movie!
In our Last Christmas review, does this gruff, cynical Santa fill our stocking with glee? Does the dream world do Danny any favours? What topics fit the Christmas spirit, and which did we feel should have waited for another time?
In the TV Movie, we get a glimpse at a new Doctor and a new Master! How does everything hold up almost 20 years later? Exactly how far should we keep Americans away from making Doctor Who?

On this Episode of The Web of Queer, we dive back into Classic Who with Tomb of the Cybermen, and then plunge into a discussion of queer representation in the media.
In our Tomb review, we open the plastic and see what shambles beneath. There is diversity, but how do the characters hold up? Do the old Cybermen compare favourably to the new, and how about those sets?
For our representation discussion, we break down tropes, stereotypes, and even acronyms. What do we see in media today that gets it right, and what completely distorts reality? How does seeing ourselves reflected in media help or hinder us? And what messages does the current status of representation send to non-queer folk?
