Doctor Who: The Web Of Queer
Ep 038: Defending the Village People

In this episode of The Web of Queer we review the 5th story in the current series, The Girl Who Died, and discuss how other characters in Doctor Who react to queer characters.

In our review of The Girl Who Died, we talk about the evolving relationship between the Doctor and Clara. Should the Doctor really think he has a duty of care? Which parts of the story stretch science, and which parts made us squee?

In our discussion, we talk about the reactions we see on screen to various queer characters. Which is a bigger shock, that Vastra is married to Jenny, or that she’s a lizard? Are people really paying attention to who Captain Jack is flirting with? How many people know about Missy's gender history? And can people's reactions to a character tell us more than that character's own behaviour does?

Ep 037: Books and Bootstraps

On this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the fourth story of series nine, Before the Flood, and the Second Doctor story The Mind Robber.

In our Before the Flood review, we discuss the change in pace of the second part of this story. How many of us googled the Bootstrap Paradox? What did we think of the opening, the Fisher King, and the romance storylines?

In our The Mind Robber review, we dive into a bit of history about this unusual and sometimes meta story of fiction in fiction. Jessica and Mikayla share their first impressions of Zoe, Stephen reveals the impact of seeing it as it was first broadcast, and we all ponder which Jack really came first.

Ep 036: Under The Weather

On this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the third episode of series nine, Under the Lake, and then briefly discuss Class, the new TV spinoff.

In our Under the Lake review, we talk about how well the atmosphere was set for the episode. What did we think of the characters, were we frightened by the ghosts, and what could possibly happen after that cliffhanger?

For our Class discussion, we take a quick a look at the writer, what we hope for the series, and if we think the new guy on the Who block might be good for the franchise.

Ep 035: The Storyline's Familiar

On this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the second episode of Series 9, The Witch's Familiar, and the Classic Fourth Doctor story, Genesis of the Daleks!

In our review of The Witch's Familiar, we discuss our continued love of the Missy and Clara combo. Were any of us pulled into believing in the softer side of Davros, or did we see the turn coming? And now that the sonic screwdriver is apparently gone, what do we think of its replacement?

In our Genesis of the Daleks review, our newer viewers finally meet Harry, but what did they think of him? They also met the Giant Clam, and have opinions about that too. We talk about Sarah Jane taking charge, how Davros has everyone fooled, and about the other genocides that the Doctor has been involved in. How might this story have an effect on his decisions in those?
